Penn College’s baking & culinary program hosted students from six secondary schools on Friday, showcasing the program’s facilities, unique opportunities (like a culinary tour of Italy and internships at the Kentucky Derby), and baking & pastry arts students’ capstone masterpiece: the Grand Pastry Display.

A new “ingredient” was added to the brewing & fermentation science capstone with the addition of an informal tasting session in Le Jeune Chef Restaurant and the major’s lab, both located in the Hager Lifelong Education Center at Penn College. The gathering was attended by the graduating students’ families and friends, industry professionals, brewing alumni, and college employees.

Exploring the creative journeys and promising career paths of eight graduating seniors in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s graphic design major, a reception was held April 26 for the Graphic Design Student Portfolio Exhibition. The exhibit runs through Friday, May 3, in the gallery located on the third floor of The Madigan Library. The remaining day’s hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The second annual Wildcat Rotorfest, held recently at Pennsylvania College of Technology by the emergency management & homeland security major, doubled in attendance and participants. The interactive career exploration day was attended by nearly 500 K-12 students from 23 schools across the state.

As the famed Kentucky Derby celebrates its 150th running on May 4, Pennsylvania College of Technology students and employees will be in action, providing gourmet dining to VIP spectators. Twenty-six Penn College students were selected for Derby Week internships following on-campus interviews by staff of Levy Restaurants, which operates dining services at Churchill Downs (the Kentucky Derby’s home).

Making connections on campus, in the community and with self care was the focus of the third annual Wildcat Wellness Fair. Held recently on a rainy April day, the popular event provided a refuge in the Bush Campus Center for weather-weary, kindred-craving Penn College students and employees.

The Penn College Business Club – with support from the Event Management & Coordination class – hosted Coffee & Conversation, an event that joined students, primarily in business and hospitality majors, with 40 employers offering potential summer internships or long-term employment. The affair featured a campus tour, Q&A session, information tables, a mixer and an etiquette dinner.

In the coming weeks, Pennsylvania College of Technology culinary arts students will practice kitchen management skills as they serve a series of dinners featuring American regional cuisine in Le Jeune Chef Restaurant. Served Wednesdays, March 20 to April 24, each week’s menu features signature cuisine from a different corner of the U.S. – from New Orleans’ Cajun and Creole flavors to New England’s famous seafood.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's emergency management & homeland security major and its outreach to assist people with disabilities and emergency responders in Lycoming County was featured in a report on WNEP-TV Wednesday evening.

Pennsylvania College of Technology’s baking and pastry arts faculty, joined by nine students, presented several educational sessions at the two-day Artisan Bakery Expo East, held at the Atlantic City Convention Center in New Jersey.
